Reading Genesis 5-7
Chapter 5 records the genealogy from Adam to the generation after Noah. Of the many people described in these generations, only Enoch’s life was described in a little more detail. What’s the point of living hundreds of years, if no other detail was mentioned? In fact, the only additional detail, but a crucial one is that the Bible records that Enoch walked with God. He was important not because longest living person (in fact from how the Bible describes, he never died), but because he walked with God. I always wondered, if ever my life was recorded, how will it be recorded?
It’s pretty sad that from Chapters 5-7, 10 generations, only 2 were mentioned to have walked faithfully with God. How tragedy that only 2 in 10 generations found favour in God’s eyes. It came to the point where God even said, “I regret that I have made them.” The very beings that were created in the image of God, is now completely living according to the sin of the world.
The story of the flood was not an attempt by God to right the wrong, it was God’s judgement on the people, and grace through repentance. Imagine living during Noah’s time, watching him build the ark. Right in front of your eyes is the means to save your life. You are given a chance to repent and accept that God’s judgement will come. That thing before your eye is going to save you! Yet an entire generation turned a blind eye. Today, we have the Gospel of Christ right presented before us as a means to save us. Question is, will you turn a blind eye?
