BSF Genesis Lesson 3 & 4 Reflections

Reading Genesis 3-4

I shall take the next 2 lessons together because I am and will be away for reservist. Chapters 3 and 4 reveal the consequence of misusing the God-given gift of choice. We see how the “only thing” that differentiates man from other created creatures [a recap: man being created in the image of God], when exploited for personal gain can have severe consequence. While created perfect in God’s perfect image, it steered Adam and Eve towards godliness, yet it was also a point of their weakness when they did not pursue godliness. By losing sight of God, it steered them away from godliness and towards sin.

The 7th day that God had intended to last for eternity ends right there and then because God now needs to get back to work to restore sinful man back to Him. This will be an ongoing work as we see that not only were Adam and Eve the receivers of punishment, it affected the next generation, Cain and Abel.

This will continue for generations to where we are today. It is through one man that sin was brought to mankind. Our rejection of godliness doesn’t keep our hands clean. We are part of the syndicate that forgo perfection for a life of sin. But just as sin entered mankind through one man, it is also through one man that the consequences of sin will be removed.

“Between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.”

Genesis 3:15

God gets back to work and puts in place a plan to restore.
